Night Flight: A Sonic Bridge Between Two Worlds

Night Flight: A Sonic Bridge Between Two Worlds

One city is shrouded in summer rain, while the other is enveloped in winter chill. One is buzzing with Johannesburg’s restless pulse, the other slowed by Bern’s quiet, snowy calm. Yet somewhere between these two worlds, a shared frequency was found, and from it came Night Flight, a collaborative EP by Casanora (Switzerland) and Beeziflybynyt (South Africa).

What began as a simple exchange of ideas over a year ago slowly evolved into something deeper: a soundscape shaped by solitude, intuition, distance, and trust. Night Flight isn’t rushed or forced it’s the result of letting time do the producing.

This is music for the in-between moments: driving home after a long night, sitting in silence before the day starts, or floating through thoughts that only appear after midnight. Soft, introspective, dreamy, a place to land, or drift.

Despite being continents apart, the two artists built a creative rhythm that felt natural, pressure-free, and honest. Each worked at their own pace, sending sketches, stems, and ideas back and forth until the project found its final form. In that process, they discovered that distance doesn’t have to disconnect; sometimes it creates space for clarity.

What is Night Flight to you?

beeziflybynyt: It’s that late-night, early-morning soundscape for relaxation and introspection.

Casanora: For me, it's a vaporistic, cloud-like refuge. Everything is wrapped in cotton wool and cozy.

You're based in two completely different cities, Johannesburg and Bern. How did this collaboration begin, and what made it feel right despite the distance?

Casanora: A little over a year ago, we exchanged music and both had the same intuitive idea to connect our worlds.

beeziflybynt: The collaboration started about a year ago. We’ve been sharing ideas back and forth since then. I was invited to her solo live show a few years ago, and it really inspired me. I connected with the freedom in her sound. From there, it just felt natural to start creating together.

The name feels dreamy, cinematic. What kind of space or atmosphere were you both imagining when you started working on this project?

Casanora: If I had imagined this world and this mood, it probably wouldn't have happened. During the process, it sounded so different, and I am so happy with how it sounded in the end. In my opinion, the most important thing is to be able to let things rest until they feel right, and that took about a year for us.

beeziflybynyt: The EP went through a lot of changes before reaching its final form. We wanted it to feel organic,  like both our worlds blending naturally into one sound.

There's a cozy, late-night quality to this project it feels like it's meant to be listened to alone, maybe on a night drive. What kind of visuals or feelings do you associate with Night Flight?

Casanora: Nice, thank you. I think it's very well described, except that, in my opinion, you don't necessarily have to listen to it alone, but it certainly helps you arrive safely at your destination, hahah.

beeziflybynyt: I enjoy walking to the park and doing small hikes, so visually I see the song like driving home after a wild night out. Stopping at a petrol station for a pie or a small snack. That last cigarette in the early morning before bed. It’s the introspective moment where you check in with yourself before the day begins.

What's the biggest challenge of working across continents, and what's something about the distance that actually helps your process?

beeziflybynyt: The challenge is mostly timing. I work with Raving in Johannesburg, so the schedule gets full, and sometimes a month passes without communication but we always come back to the work. Creating in the same room definitely boosts the energy, but distance also helps: you get things done in your own time, and I enjoy working in solitude when I need to focus and express myself.

Casanora: For me personally, there are no problems, because we weren't under any pressure and there was no stress. Everything was fine with our different daily routines and ways of communicating. Even when things got more stressful, there were no problems. Somehow, we're a great match.

What do you hope people feel when they listen to the tape from start to finish?

beeziflybynyt: Gratitude. A moment to ground themselves and forget the noise of the outside world.

Casanora: Oh, I can only hope that you feel as cozy as I do, that our sound can be a warm or cozy blanket for you, a companion to help you find inner peace.

What emotions or memories did you return to while creating?

Casanora: I am really proud to have had the patience to wait so long, to let things rest and to create until everything clicked into place and was ready. Beezi was exactly the right patient partner for this, full of ideas and open to all the back and forth. Your memory really touched me. It was such a beautiful day  that we all  spent together.

beeziflybynyt: I get anxious a lot, fearing that I won't finish projects or execute ideas the way I imagine them. This project calmed me, because we actually completed it and released it. One memory I hold onto is spending time with her and her family. We went for a picnic at the ‘Gurten’ and took a ride on Rodelbahn. We were all sitting there, going downhill, laughing. That moment stayed with me.

What did you learn about yourselves or each other through making Night Flight?

beeziflybynyt: That we communicate best through sound, we’re drawn to similar sonic directions, and we both enjoy the freedom to experiment.

Casanora: DITO, I couldn't have said it better myself.

If Night Flight was a message to the world, what would it be saying?

beeziflybynyt: Don’t forget to live. Be present. The world moves at an overwhelming speed, and you don’t always have to match it. Slow down, enjoy what you love, and celebrate the small achievements.

Casanora:  Take things one step at a time and don't stress yourself out. Remember that there are 24 hours in a day, so try to be kind to yourself and do something nice for yourself. You can't always save the world or everyone around you — especially if you don't take care of yourself first.
